Just a friendly reminder that SEO has always been about 3 things:
Prominence
Relevance
Proximity
The new hype with LLMs and chat interfaces doesn’t change this.
In fact, they reinforce this.
Chat interfaces provide a hyper personalized experience that is largely based on your previous chat history and what the chat knows about you. This will be different from your neighbour.
This will also be different from your colleagues abroad.
The tools that track this stuff don’t have your hyper personalization setup.
The prompts that they track or topics don’t capture you.
To add to this, the browser you use informs your chat experience in it. Whether this is with Google’s chrome browser or not, you provide a tremendous amount of data for them even before you enter the chat based on your browsing history and permissions.
So before you go wasting money on the next latest AI tracking tech stack and snake oil GEO or AI Optimization SEO plan, please consider these things.
- How are you known online
- What is your search history
- Where are you located
- Where is your search happening from
- What kind of device are you searching with
- Do the above answers support your questions in an objectively positive way or do they provide a bias that needs to be overcome
This is still all about proximity, relevance, and prominence and it will continue to be. That is why GOOD SEO is still the best approach to showing up and being recommended in LLMs as well as the interfaces that Google serves you.
